Final Score: Dodgers 6, Mets 0-Shut down and shut out

The Met offense had no answer for Yu Darvish

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Both Jacob deGrom and Amed Rosario got hits and stolen bases in this game, and were by far the offensive standouts in the 6-0 loss to Yu Darvish and the Dodgers.

The Mets had their chance to score in the first when they got runners on, but both Yoenis Cespedes and Curtis Granderson could not bring them home. That allowed Darvish to settle in and he met little resistance as he breezed through the Met lineup and made his Dodger debut a successful one.

On the other hand, it was a frustrating night on the mound for deGrom who was greeted rudely by Chris Taylor with a leadoff home run. He gave up another home run to Yasiel Puig an inning later and after another run came home in the fifth, that was the end of his night. His pitch count was alarmingly high, and despite picking up eight strikeouts, he had trouble putting away batters in the first three innings.

Once deGrom departed, the bullpen again allowed the game to get out of hand. Josh Smoker gave up a long home run to Chase Utley, and Chasen Bradford also gave up a run in over two innings of work.

The one positive is Amed Rosario showed another dimension he could bring to this team in 2018 when he did pick up his first stolen base.

Full recap to follow.
