The Mets dropped the second game of their two-game set with the Rangers, 5-1 this afternoon at Citi Field. The team’s victory last night broke a four game losing streak, but fear not! They started a new one today.
Rafael Montero started for the Mets and was less than effective, going three innings and allowing runs to score on a balk and a home run in the first, and a fielder’s choice in the second. After Montero’s exit, Josh Smoker and Hansel Robles combined to allow another run - this time by a walk - in the top of the sixth.
The Mets’ sole offense came in the fifth, on a Wilmer Flores (initially disputed) solo home run. Martin Perez had the Mets stymied at the plate today, going eight innings, striking out five, walking none, and giving up just three hits. Alex Claudio recorded the final three outs for Texas.
Full recap to follow.
