This Week in Mets Quotes: Jay Bruce happy to be away from the Mets, Matt Harvey frustrated

Lots of interesting, funny, idiotic, and insightful things were said by the Mets—and about them—recently. Here are some of our favorites.

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Your 2017 New York Mets: It's kind of hard to take any positives out of the last two years.

"It's kind of hard to take any positives out of the last two years. It's extremely frustrating. It's hard going out there and not doing what I can to help this team win. All in all, it's just extremely frustrating. That's really all you can say about tonight." -Matt Harvey [MLB]

Mets quotes are getting pretty depressing.

"I'm frustrated. There's nothing else to say about today's outing. It was terrible. I have to be better, and that's about it. That's all there is to say." -Matt Harvey [MLB]

“At least now, I have peace of mind, and hope, that if all goes well with the surgery, this is what they thought it was and that’s corrected now. I needed the games to know that I couldn’t throw. Because I could kind of grind my way and kind of fudge my way through the practicing. But once the games started that was a whole different ballgame, something wasn’t right.” -David Wright [New York Post]

“I love to play this game. Sure, it’s going to suck to have to rehab again, but it’s almost as if my mind is at ease now. That if all goes well I can throw without pain.” -David Wright [New York Post]

Eight walks in one game is pretty bad, but at least it’s not like they had 11 walks...

“Tonight I had too many walks, which is frustrating, and that just can’t happen up here. Those walks are going to lead to runs eventually, so I have to minimize those.” -Robert Gsellman [New York Post]

…oh.

"Go after some guys. … Eleven walks? Not at this level. You can't do that." -Terry Collins [Mets]

Just in case anyone is wondering about Gsellman’s confidence.

"I always have confidence when I take the mound. It's just a matter of if I can repeat my mechanics. Today, it was pretty bad. I've just got to watch video, and keep working on it." -Robert Gsellman [MLB]

"It's very surprising, only because [Gsellman] got a real taste of what you have to do up here for success. He had it. He's got the great movement on his fastball. You saw some good secondary pitches. ... I still think this kid's a great competitor. I still think he's got a tremendous future ahead of him. We've just got to get it turned around to where when he goes into the winter, when he gets ready for Spring Training, he's still got the same confidence that he left with last year." -Terry Collins [MLB]

No offense taken.

“I pretty much went from the least fun situation in baseball to the most fun. That’s no slight to the Mets at all. ... I just wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself.” -Jay Bruce [New York Daily News]

[insert Billy Wagner’s “shocker” line here]

“Mike [Barwis] is not going anywhere. Mike is one of our most important staff and resources.” -Sandy Alderson [New York Post]

This trust is based on what, exactly?

“Cespedes didn’t do any of that kind of exercise with any of his work with Barwis. It was filmed, I think, because somebody wanted to demonstrate how strong he might be and it has left a completely erroneous impression. It wasn’t part of his training and, in fact, Mike Barwis is probably key to keeping Cespedes on the field going forward. The guy that Cespedes most trusts is Barwis.” -Sandy Alderson [New York Post]

Zero percent chance the “source” is not Jeff Wilpon.

“You can say the team went to the World Series two years ago and the playoffs last year with Barwis, so maybe this is just an anomaly.” -Anonymous source [New York Post]

Did he forget the 30th celebration that he attended last year?

“[The 1986 Mets have] never been back. I never want to go back, I’d rather stay with the Yankees than deal with the Mets. It hurts us. It hurts what they’ve done to the players I’ve seen. What they did to Ray Knight, what they did to Gary Carter. Those were key players that gave so much. They laid their life on the line those years.” -Darryl Strawberry [New York Post]

To end with a Happy Recap, congrats to Travis Taijeron on his first major league home run.

"It's a good feeling, always, the first one. Hopefully, more to come." -Travis Taijeron [MLB]

SiteBot FacePalm of the Week

“Robles was effective last year for a full year. Fell off this year, but that could be a fluke.” -OohAPiazzaCandy!

“He's just floundering.” -IPA

“You’re a shark IPA.” -pegleg52

“I’m sick of herring these marine puns.” ZZPops

[This went on for while]

Brew Crew Ball Quote of the Week

“[Regarding Eric Hanhold being traded to the Mets] Poor Guy. I wish him luck in recovering from whatever arm malady befalls him from being in the Mets organization.” -krieden
