Final Score: Marlins 5, Mets 4-Walked off in Miami

It was a bad night for the bullpen in the late innings.

MLB: New York Mets at Miami Marlins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

A.J. Ramos blew his first save with the Mets in the ninth, and Paul Sewald gave up the game-winning home run to J.T. Realmuto in the tenth to hand the Mets a 5-4 loss.

Seth Lugo started off the night well on the mound. With a limited pitch count, he made it through five innings and allowed four hits and just one run. That one run came off the bat of Christian Yelich who took Lugo deep in the fourth.

The Mets used the long ball to get on the board as well. Jose Reyes had a great night at the plate and got the scoring started when he hit a solo home run off Odrisamer Despaigne in the first inning. He later tacked on another run the ninth when he singled for his fourth hit of the night.

Travis d’Arnaud also showed some pop and handed the Mets the lead when he crushed a ball to center for a two-run home run in the sixth.

With Lugo exiting the game early, the bullpen had to do some heavy lifting for the second night in the row. Josh Smoker, Jeurys Familia, and Jerry Blevins all allowed baserunners in their appearances but kept they Miami off the board. Then it all fell apart for Ramos in the ninth against his former team. Justin Bour greeted him with a home run, and RBI singles by A.J. Ellis and Ichiro Suzuki tied up the game with two-out. Paul Sewald finished the inning with a strikeout of Yelich but he was less successful in the tenth and the game ended with one swing of the bat.
