The Mets lost 12-8 this afternoon against the Astros in the first baseball game since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas. The game got out of hand quickly, as Matt Harvey struggled mightily in his first major league starts in over two months. He gave up seven runs on eight hits in two innings of work and needed 70 pitches to get those six outs. He struck out three and didn’t walk anyone, not that it really mattered given the way the rest of his start went.
And although the Mets scored twice in the fourth and five times in the seventh—which included a Wilmer Flores grand slam—it wasn’t enough. Tommy Milone had given up three runs, and after Jacob Rhame went one-and-a-third scoreless in his major league debut, Jamie Callahan gave up two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. And the Mets only mustered one more run when Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth.
