The Mets dropped the second game of their doubleheader against the Houston Astros this evening by a score of 4-1. The game started promisingly for the Mets, who got five excellent innings out of Seth Lugo, before the wheels fell off in the sixth.
That inning, Lugo did not record an out, but had four straight batters reach base against him. By the time he was relieved by Hansel Robles, two runs were in and two men with on. The next batter, Brian McCann grounded into a fielder’s choice and drove in a third run. A sacrifice fly from J.D. Davis plated the fourth run for the Astros one batter later.
The Mets only scored one run, in the top of the sixth. Juan Lagares tripled, and was eventually driven in by a Dominic Smith RBI double. New arrival Norichika Aoki, collected one base hit in his Met debut.
The most significant event of the night, however, was a freak injury suffered by Wilmer Flores, after a foul ball off his own bat hit him directly in the nose, forcing him from the game. He was sent to the hospital for x-rays during the game, of which the results are not yet known.
