The Mets gave their home crowd an explosive send off, defeating the Braves 7-1.
Everything was working tonight. Robert Gsellman had one of his best starts of the year, pitching six innings, striking out four and allowing just one run. The bullpen was equally effective, as Jamie Callahan, Chasen Bradford, and Paul Sewald combined for three scoreless innings.
The offense came to play tonight as well. Travis d’Arnaud went 1-for-3, driving in three runs - the first of which on a force attempt fielding error from Dansby Swanson that plated Juan Lagares. He hit a RBI single in the 4th to bring home Gsellman and Jose Reyes.
The game’s defining moment came in the seventh inning, when a pinch hitting Dominic Smith put helped the Mets run away with the lead with a three run homer. Reyes added another run shortly after with an RBI double.
