Final score: Astros 8, Mets 6—Houston, we have a sweep

Despite jumping out to leads of 2-0 and 4-1 early in their series finale in Houston, the Mets lost 8-6 this afternoon. The loss completes the Astros’ three-game sweep of the Mets over the course of the weekend. From the Mets’ perspective, the series makes it more likely that they’ll end up with better position in the 2018 amateur draft.

As has been the case in most of his major league starts, Chris Flexen struggled. He allowed seven runs on nine hits with one strikeout and two walks in four innings in this one and threw 79 pitches in the process. And although the Mets scored a couple of runs to cut Houston’s lead to 7-6, they never completed the comeback. Jeurys Familia gave up a run in seventh for good measure.
