Rafael Montero started strong but faded late, and Hansel Robles and Paul Sewald struggled in their appearances, but none of it mattered in the 11-7 win.
Kevin Plawecki helped start the scoring early when he singled and stole a base in the second. He came home on Juan Lagares’s single and the Mets’ offense was off and running for the day. Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes blasted home runs the following inning, but it was the fourth when the offense did the most damage.
The Mets sent eleven men to the plate and scored six runs against three different Phillie pitchers. Gavin Ceechini picked up two RBIs and Brandon Nimmo had two hits in the inning. A wild pitch and the Phillies’ defense also played a part in the big inning.
Nimmo overall had a good day and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Kevin Plawecki, Jose Reyes, and Juan Lagares also had multiple hits at the plate.
The Phillies did cut the lead in half against Montero and Sewald, and Hansel Robles allowed a couple of runs to score in the ninth, but AJ Ramos got Rhys Hoskins to fly out to end the game on Labor Day.
