Final score: Phillies 9, Mets 1—deBombed

The Mets lost a laugher at Citi Field tonight.

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

Jacob deGrom and the Mets were embarrassed by the Phillies at Citi Field tonight and, in the end, lost 9-1. Although deGrom struck out the side in order in the top of the first, his start went downhill in a big way after that, and he wound up giving up nine runs—six earned—in just three-and-two-thirds innings.

The Mets’ bullpen did not allow the Phillies to score again, but the lineup scored just that one run on a Travis d’Arnaud double in the bottom of the first. Those bullpen performances were the highlights of the game from the Mets’ perspective, as Josh Smoker, Jacob Rhame, Kevin McGowan, Erik Goeddel, and Jamie Callahan all had scoreless appearances.
