Final Score: Mets 6, Reds 1-Bullish bullpen

The bullpen was fantastic in the Mets’ win.

Rafael Montero was good enough in the 6-1 win over the Reds. Montero looked great in the first inning, but in every subsequent inning it was a battle for him. He allowed a run to score in the second on a Scott Schebler sacrifice fly, but he was able to limit the damage. He was done after five innings with a high pitch count, but he allowed just the one Cincinnati run. It wasn’t the prettiest of outings but he left the game with the lead.

Kevin Plawecki handed the Mets the lead in the second when he hit a two-run shot off Homer Bailey, and Dominic Smith added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single.

The Mets piled on in the next inning when Bailey left with runners on. Norichika Aoki singled home both runners, and Asdrubal Cabrera blasted a double to center to give them a comfortable 6-1 lead.

It was up to the bullpen the nail down the win and they did a superb job. Chasen Bradford continued to impress in his outing and picked up four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work. Josh Smoker retired the only batter he faced, Jeurys Familia was perfect in the eigth, and Jamie Callahan pitched a clean ninth to finish off the win.

Full recap to follow.
