The Mets avoided arbitration and came to terms on 2018 salaries with Travis d’Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard, Matt Harvey, Jeurys Familia, Wilmer Flores, Jacob deGrom, AJ Ramos, and Hansel Robles. The only player with whom the Mets did not settle was Zack Wheeler.
The 2018 season is the last one for which the Mets control Harvey, Familia, and Ramos, all of whom are eligible for free agency following the season. Wheeler is coming off a rather abysmal season in which he had a 5.21 ERA and threw just 86.1 innings.
Before 2017, Wheeler hadn’t pitched in a major league game since 2014. He had Tommy John surgery in 2015 and attempted to come back in 2016 but wasn’t able to make it back to a major league mound. The date of his arbitration hearing hasn’t been announced, but it will happen at some point between January 29 and February 16 in Phoenix, Arizona.
