Meet the Mets

Adrian Gonzalez promised not to be an issue in the clubhouse, admitting he was one with the Red Sox in 2012. He’ll also help develop Dominic Smith.

The Daily News’ Kristie Ackert thinks the Gonzalez signing is a low-risk, high-reward move, particularly because of his role in Smith’s progress.

Whenever he returns, don’t expect Michael Conforto to return immediately to the player he was a season ago.

Mickey Callaway was instrumental in bringing Jay Bruce back into the fold. The two connected during their brief overlap in Cleveland.

While Gonzalez and Smith battle for the starting gig at first base, Mets prospect Peter Alonso is drawing praise. He was ranked No. 7 in MLB Pipeline’s latest list of prospects at first.

Around the National League East

The Marlins want Ronald Acuna from the Braves if the sides are to strike a Christian Yelich deal.

Speaking of Marlins trades, the team is kicking itself for trading fireballing prospect Luis Castillo for Dan Straily in what was supposedly a win-now move in 2017.

To be successful, the Phillies need Jerad Eickhoff to return to his pre-2017 form.

Around Major League Baseball

Though the players rejected the proposal, the league will institute a pitch clock this season.

Are we sure Eric Hosmer actually has these reported gigantic offers on the table?

The Twins have managed to straddle the line between going for it and rebuilding, a strategy that could prove especially fruitful in the AL Central.

Yesterday at AA

The Mets should not be content in Anthony Swarzak’s serving as the only addition to the bullpen this offseason.

Center fielder Desmond Lindsay slots in at No. 3 on our list of the top 25 Mets prospects.

This Date in Mets History

While serving as a Mets coach, Yogi Berra was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972. He’d become the team’s manager that year following the unexpected death of Gil Hodges.
