Meet the Mets

Mets GM candidate Doug Melvin discussed analytics with Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.

Ex-commissioner of Major League Baseball Bud Selig endorsed Doug Melvin for the Mets GM job to Mike Puma of the New York Post, calling him “a great baseball man.”

Peter Alonso hit a long home run and drove in two runs in yesterday’s Arizona Fall League game between the Scottsdale Scorpions and the Surprise Sagueros. Andres Gimenez went 0-4 with a walk and a strikeout, and played the entire game at shortstop for the Scorpions.

The Conforto family welcomed a new addition on Saturday. Say hello to Griffey Conforto, a fox red lab puppy!

Newsday reviewed the Met’s Triple-A affiliates from over the years and listed some of the stand-out players that played for each of them.

Around the National League East

The Marlins appear to have landed two top international free agents, having signed cuban outfield prospects Victor Victor Mesa and his brother Victor Mesa Jr. The terms of the signings have not yet been released, but it is believed that Victor Victor Mesa will receive a bonus in excess of $5 million, and Victor Mesa Jr. will receive a bonus of close to $1 million.

Ryan Wormeli of NBC Sports reviewed the things that went right during David Martinez’s first season as manager of the Washington Nationals.

Around Major League Baseball

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 7 of the NLCS and will move on to face the Red Sox in the World Series. Cody Bellinger was named the MVP of the series.

While they may be headed to their second straight World Series appearance, the Dodgers still have a Department of Justice investigation to worry about according to Bill Madden of the New York Daily News.

Tyler Kepner of the New York Times reviewed Ryan Braun’s time with the Brewers, and discussed his special bond with the city of Milwaukee.

With his team eliminated from the postseason, Jose Altuve underwent surgery on his right knee. Altuve is expected to be fully recovered and ready to return to action in time for Spring Training.

Chris Sale pranked the media by telling them that irritation from a belly-button ring was to blame for him being scratched from a start in the ALCS.

The Red Sox are looking into having Mookie Betts play second base during the World Series so that they can fit J.D. Martinez into their lineup for each World Series game in which there is no DH.
