Meet the Mets

At a press conference held Tuesday afternoon at Citi Field, Brodie Van Wagenen was introduced as the next General Manager of the Mets.

Jeff Wilpon said the Mets got their first choice in Van Wagenen and that he is “somebody we think is going to great.”

Wilpon also stated it is Van Wagenen’s choice on who in the organization will stay and who will go.

During the press conference, Van Wagenen said the Mets will win both now and in the future.

When asked about the status of pitcher Jacob deGrom, Van Wagenen said he hopes the Mets can keep deGrom for “a long time”.

Joel Sherman writes that in the end, all that will matter is whether or not Van Wagenen can get the job done.

Tim Britton writes actions are more important than words when it comes to Van Wagenen establishing credibility.

Van Wagenen is described by old friend A.J. Hinch, as kind, charismatic, and smart.

The Mets hiring of Van Wagenen may be a weird one, but it could also end up being a smart one.
