Meet the Mets

The Mets are reportedly hiring Chili Davis as their new hitting coach. Davis was recently fired as the Cubs’ hitting coach after not being able to connect with younger players.

Allard Baird is the latest addition to the Mets’ front office. Baird comes over from the Red Sox to be the vice president and assistant GM of scouting and player development.

Brodie Van Wagenen would love to sign Bryce Harper but it all depends on whether Fred Wilpon would agree to such a large contact.

A Robinson Cano deal could still get done but Jeff McNeil isn’t allowing the rumors bother him.

The Mets must make a decision this week on whether or not to tender Travis d’Arnaud a contract for next season.

If the Mets do not tender d’Arnaud a contract they could pursue Yasmani Grandal as their new catcher.

The secret behind Seth Lugo’s curveball might be a tennis ball container.

Around the National League East

The Braves still have a few holes they would like to fill this offseason. Despite having a need in the outfield Atlanta will probably not go after Harper (paywall alert). The Braves traded pitcher Adam McCreery to the Dodgers and pitcher Ricardo Sanchez to the Mariners.

The Marlins don’t have a closer on their roster but they have an opportunity to see what some of their young prospects can do.

Should the Phillies trade for Corey Kluber?

After already meeting with Philadelphia and the Yankees, Patrick Corbin also met with the Nationals.

Around Major League Baseball

The Yankees traded Ronald Torreyes to the Cubs.

The Oakland Athletics unveiled their plans for a stunning new ballpark.

The Astros are interested in signing Nathan Eovaldi.

With all the free agent talent on the market, Yahoo sports created a tracker to follow where they all end up.

Teams have checked in with the Giants to see if Madison Bumgarner is available but he is most likely staying in San Francisco.

Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue

Lukas Vlahos wrote about the recent front office additions. He also declared the winners of 2018-2019 AAOP.

The staff had some fun and created their own AAOPs: Brian Salvatore, Kenneth Lavin, Allison McCague, and Lukas Vlahos
