After two days of rampant speculation, it appears that a deal sending Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the Mets is close to done, and that final details should come together tomorrow. Per Anthony DiComo, the Mets have begun informing the players in the deal that they will be dealt.
The exact terms of the deal are not yet known. Cano and Diaz are the only two Mariners that are expected to go the Mets, while the Mariners are expected to receive Jay Bruce, Anthony Swarzak, and some combination of Jeff McNeil, Jarred Kelenic, and Justin Dunn. It’s a franchise-altering move and perhaps a tenure-defining move for Brodie Van Waganen only a few weeks into the first offseason of his career as a GM.
It’s probably safe to stop mashing F5 on your Twitter feed for the evening, and we’ll hopefully have an actual trade to discuss tomorrow rather than the same rumors we’ve been reading for the past 48 hours.
