Meet the Mets

The Athletic picked Jacob deGrom as its “Man of the Year” for 2018.

Yasmani Grandal reportedly rejected a four-year $60 million contract offer from the Mets, and may have overplayed his hand, as few teams now have catching needs or would be likely to top that price.

Around the National League East

USA Today thinks the Marlins should sign Bryce Harper.

The Phillies are apparently unwilling to meet Dallas Keuchel’s request for a five-year deal.

Around Major League Baseball

Jonathan Lucroy reached a one-year deal with the Angels to be their catcher.

The Blue Jays made their first signing of the offseason, bringing in Matt Shoemaker on a one-year contract.

MLB’s new Cuban posting agreement may be dead in the water, as Senator Marco Rubio is asking the President to block it.

The Athletic has a piece on Kim Ng’s failure to break baseball’s glass ceiling.

This Date in Mets History

The Mets regrettably signed Jason Bay on this date in 2009 for a whopping $66 million over four years. Bay would go on to stink it up in a Mets uniform with his OPS+ dropping from 134 with the Red Sox in 2009 to 105 in 2010, 97 in 2011, and 48 in 2012 with the Mets before his contract was terminated prematurely.
