Meet the Mets
At a press conference held at Citi Field on Tuesday morning, Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz were introduced as the newest members of the Mets.
Diaz said he “Came here to win, to try to reach the World Series and get the ring” while Cano said “It’s always good to be back in New York”.
Jeff Wilpon wanted a big splash and newly hired GM Brodie Van Wagenen did just that in his first move while in charge of the Mets.
David Lennon writes Van Wagenen backed up his words with actions and now it’s time for ownership to pony up the cash to fill the remaining holes on the roster.
Noah Syndergaard does not appear to be going anywhere as Van Wagenen said it would be “very special circumstances” for the team to trade Syndergaard.
The Mets are talking to the Marins about a potential trade for J.T. Realmuto, and they’ve been in touch with the agent for A.J. Pollock.
The New York Post is reporting the Mets are close to finalizing their new radio team with Wayne Randazzo appearing to be the front-runner to join Howie Rose in the booth.
Also on Tuesday, Jeff Wilpon said the Mets are working with their insurance company about a potential insurance settlement with David Wright’s contract.
The Mets are still in talks with the Marlins about acquiring catcher J.T. Realmuto though the deal would include at least one young major-league player, one of which is rumored to be Brandon Nimmo.
Around the National League East
The Nationals made a big move on Tuesday afternoon as they signed free agent pitcher Patrick Corbin to a six-year $140 million deal.
With Corbin going to the Nationals, the Phillies have reached out to the Giants about the availability of Madison Bumgarner though their focus appears to be J.A. Happ.
The Braves are close to hiring Rick Kranitz as their new pitching coach.
Around Major League Baseball
The Angels are hiring Kevin Ferris from the Rays to be their Director of Research and Development.
Catcher Robinson Chirinos has agreed to a one-year deal with the Astros.
Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue
Lukas Vlahos broke down the Cano deal.
Vasilis Drimalitis covered the news that Syndergaard is unlikely to be traded.
