Meet the Mets

With the asking price on J.T. Realmuto still high, the Mets could turn to one of the free agent catching options on the market.

The team should try and build a trade around prospect Andres Gimenez at the Winter Meetings in exchange for Realmuto.

The Mets’ trade for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz won’t put them over the top, but they have at least been fun so far this offseason.

According to Jon Heyman, the Mets could consider adding Marwin Gonzalez or Mike Moustakas to their infield.

Ten years ago, Omar Minaya completed a three-team trade to acquire reliever J.J. Putz which is still remembered as one of the weirder trades at the Winter Meetings.

Around the National League East

The Braves announced Rick Kranitz as their new pitching coach.

The Marlins are hoping to find a suitor for Realmuto at the upcoming Winter Meetings.

Sean Doolittle is hoping Bryce Harper finds his way back to Washington next season. Even if Harper does not re-sign with the Nationals, they will be fine without him.

Around Major League Baseball

Former major league players Luis Valbuena, who played for the Angels this year until late in the season, and Jose Castillo died in a car accident coming home from a baseball game in Venezuela.

Baseball had little authority when it came to agents covering up Melky Cabrera’s use of steroids.

Nathan Eovaldi officially re-signed with the Red Sox with a four-year deal worth $67.5 million.

Jonathan Schoop will reportedly sign with the Twins for one year.

The Indians granted an extension to pitcher Carlos Carrasco who will now become a free agent after the 2022 season.

Now that the Diamondbacks traded Paul Goldschmidt to the Cardinals, how far will they go with their rebuild?

Cubs closer Brandon Morrow underwent a procedure on his elbow that puts his availability for Opening Day in doubt.

Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray could still choose a baseball career over football.

Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue

Lukas Vlahos thinks Grandal should be the Mets’ top target now.

Ted Berg was the guest on the latest episode of Amazin’ Avenue Audio.
