The Mets and Jason Vargas have agreed to a two-year deal worth $16 million, pending a physical with the Mets, per a report from Jon Heyman. The deal also includes a club option for 2020. Heyman also reported that Vargas can earn an extra $1.5 million per season in incentives for innings pitched.

Last year, Vargas had a solid season with the Royals. He threw 179.2 innings with 6.71 strikeouts per nine and a 4.16 ERA. Steamer projections over at Fangraphs have Vargas taking a step back this year, 136 innings with 6.42 K/9 and a 4.78 ERA. He spet the past four years with the Royals, and he threw just 55.0 innings combined between 2015 and 2016. Over the course of his career, which has included stops with the Angels, Mariners, Marlins, and Mets, he has a 4.17 ERA and 4.36 FIP.

The Mets have been busy throughout the offseason. They’ve signed Anthony Swarzak, Todd Frazier, Jose Reyes, Jay Bruce, and now Vargas.
