Meet the Mets

Jacob deGrom had a successful outing in his spring debut and his fastball was especially lively.

Yoenis Cespedes crushed a home run batting second in the lineup which is where he might find himself again once the season begins.

After the loss to Houston, Mickey Callaway was not happy with the lack of fundamentals this team has shown so far this spring.

There are a few players who have held the spotlight this spring, but there are a few other storylines that deserve some attention.

Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez sat down and reminisced about their memories from October of 1986.

Around the National League East

Matt Wisler struggled in his start against the Tigers but Dustin Peterson showed off some pop for Atlanta.

Jake Arrieta finally found a home and unfortunately it is with the Phillies. Adding a top tier pitcher like Arrieta signifies that Philadelphia will be ready to compete sooner rather than later.

Tanner Roark was not sharp in his start for the Nationals. Washington missed out on Arrieta and they don’t have a lot of depth beyond their top four pitchers.

Around Major League Baseball

Major League Baseball is currently filled with young, talented shortstops that rank among the best players in the game.

Reds’ starter Anthony DeSclafani is dealing with an oblique injury and he is likely headed for the DL.

Reliever Andrew Miller is a Players Association Representative and is dismayed at how the market has played out for free agents this offseason, but he is also largely responsible for how the market has shaped up for relievers.

The Twins released pitcher Anibal Sanchez in order to make room for Lance Lynn.

This Date in Mets History

Bad blood between Mike Piazza and Guillermo Mota boiled over on this date in 2003. After being hit by a Mota pitch, Piazza charged the mound which sparked a brawl between the Mets and Dodgers. After the game, an enraged Piazza went looking for Mota but the pitcher had already fled.

Happy Birthday Darryl Strawberry!
