Meet the Mets

Steven Matz’s second appearance of spring didn’t go much better than the first and the lefty has been frustrated by the results so far.

Despite putting up two poor appearances, Matz’s spot in the rotation isn’t in jeopardy just yet.

Jacob deGrom threw again yesterday but his status for Opening Day remains very much in doubt.

In the end it might not matter who makes the rotation but how strong the depth is beyond the starting five.

There are a few infield prospects that have been impressive so far in camp and perhaps they can sneak onto the roster once the season begins.

The infield and the bullpen still need to get sorted out before Opening Day but the roster is mostly set despite some minor injuries and poor performances.

Around the National League East

The Braves picked up the win over the Marlins behind some strong pitching.

The Nationals defeated both the Mets and Tigers with their split squad teams.

Around Major League Baseball

The Athletics have designated infielder Brandon Moss for assignment.

It was a bit of a shock when the Mariners acquired Dee Gordon to play the outfield, but so far he has been impressing his new club.

Stolen bases have seen a sharp decline in recent years and there are a few factors contributing to the recent downturn.

The Cardinals might have had a down year last season but a full rebuild is not in their vocabulary.

Despite all the rumors surrounding Manny Machado this offseason, he is still with the Orioles and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win.
