The Mets came back multiple times to defeat the Marlins by a final score of 8-6. After getting down late, the Mets rallied in the eighth and ninth innings to bring home the victory.
Jacob deGrom was not himself for most of this start, but was able to keep the Marlins off the board until the wheels came off in the fifth. Todd Frazier was unable to field two grounders that went for hits, and then Justin Bour gave the Marlins their first lead when he hit his first of two home runs on the night.
As is the norm with these 2018 Mets, they came right back to tie the game after they got down. Todd Frazier led off the sixth inning with a double and eventually came home on Juan Lagares’s sac fly. After Bour took Jacob Rhame deep for his second home run of the night, both Wilmer Flores and Asdrubal Cabrera hit solo shots to once again tie the game in the eighth.
Yoenis Cespedes looked awful all night but once again came through when it mattered. After an error and a walk, Cespedes hit a ball down the line that third baseman Brian Anderson couldn’t corral. Both runners came home and the Mets held an 8-6 lead.
Jeurys Familia came in and nailed down the save and the Mets are now 9-1 and off to the best start in their history.
Full recap to follow.
