Final Score: Mets 6, Brewers 5—The Toddfather Part II

The Mets hold on for their eleventh win, as Todd Frazier hits his first two home runs as a Met.

MLB: Milwaukee Brewers at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

In a thrilling back-and-forth contest, the Mets opened their series against the Brewers with a victory at Citi Field. The crowd was electric behind Steven Matz and the Mets all night long, as the Mets opened up the scoring with one run in the first inning, followed by a solo home run by Todd Frazier in the second inning, his first home run as a Met. Improbably, Jose Lobaton also hit a triple in his first at-bat as a Met.

The Brewers rallied to tie the game on a two-run shot by Hernan Perez in the fourth, but Todd Frazier immediately answered in the bottom of the inning with his second home run of the game. A big inning by the Mets in the 5th put them in front ultimately for good, but not without some dicey moments. Yoenis Cespedes’ athleticism took center stage once again tonight, as he helped the Mets’ cause with several fantastic defensive plays.

The Mets’ bullpen bent, but did not break tonight as Seth Lugo gave the Mets two solid innings of relief, despite allowing a home run to Travis Shaw to edge the Brewers ever closer in the eighth inning. A.J. Ramos and Robert Gsellman both recorded key outs and Jeruys Familia closed the door in the ninth for the save, with perhaps the nastiest stuff we’ve seen from him so far this season.

Full recap to follow.
