This year, Major League Baseball is poised to set a new strikeout record for a remarkable 11th consecutive season. For this week’s Mind Boggler, we’re asking you to name every player in Mets history with a single-season strikeout rate of at least 22%.
Every Met to strike out in at least 22% of his plate appearances in a season
To qualify for this list, the player needs to have qualified for the batting title, which requires at least 502 plate appearances in a 162-game season. Mets players have achieved this somewhat ignominious feat 23 times, from as far back as 1963 to as recently as 2015. However, because several players did it more than once, only 16 individual names are listed here. Most of them are ones that you’d expect, although there are a few deep cuts from some of the franchise’s darker days.
You’ll have four minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
