The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves in a thrilling extra-inning contest tonight, buoyed by a stellar performance from the bullpen. Of the group, Gsellman was the star, pitching two scoreless innings and then scoring the winning run in the twelfth, driven in by Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes had a golden sombrero in tonight’s game, but seems to always turn it on with the game on the line. Asdrubal Cabrera then drove Cespedes in to provide an insurance run, his second hit of the night. Amed Rosario also racked up two hits and an RBI.
Noah Syndergaard was not his completely dominant self, but pitched six innings, giving up three runs, keeping the Mets in the ballgame. However, the Mets played less than stellar defense behind him tonight, as Jay Bruce misplayed a ball in the outfield that ultimately led to a run.
Jeurys Familia earned his eighth save of the season, pitching a perfect twelfth inning to finish the game.
Oh, and the Mets threw out not one, but TWO runners trying to steal tonight. What a time to be alive, folks.
