Triple-A: Las Vegas 51s (5-14)

EL PASO 6, LAS VEGAS 3 (BOX)

Jason Vargas’s rehab start was mediocre as the 51s blew an early lead and never rebounding. Vargas was handed an early 1-0 lead by Johnny Monell, but three doubles and a walk in the third led to three runs for El Paso. Vargas threw 66 pitches in his four inning start, striking out three and walking two (don’t read into the stats too much, it’s the PCL). Chris Flexen logged four relief innings, allowing two runs and striking out three. Ty Kelly and Phillip Evans each hit solo home runs in the loss.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (7-8)

BINGHAMTON 8, NEW HAMPSHIRE 5 (BOX)

The Rumble Ponies handled the best left side of the infield in the minors, defeating New Hampshire 8-5. Vladito and Bo Bichette did notch three hits, but Patrick Mazeika, Matt Oberste, and Levi Michael responded with home runs. Jeff McNeil also went 3-for-4 and finished a home run short of the cycle. On the pitching end, Joseph Shaw had a rough start, and Gerson Bautista gave up two runs in an inning of work. Austin McGeorge, Eric Hanhold, and Tyler Bashlor kept the Fisher Cats off the board however, and that was enough to hang on to the win.

Roster Update: RHP Mike Gibbons transferred to St. Lucie
