The Mets came from behind and defeated the Cardinals by a final score of 6-5. Jay Bruce hit the go-ahead home run in the tenth to give the Mets their first lead of the game.

Zack Wheeler was on the mound and had a typical Zack Wheeler start. He walked the first batter of the game and Tommy Pham came up as the second batter and promptly made the score 2-0.

The Mets attempted to come back the next inning when Bruce hit an RBI triple, but they were unable to tie the game despite having multiple opportunities.

Wheeler then let things get out of hand in the fourth. After hitting Paul DeJong with a pitch, Kolten Wong doubled him home. The pitcher Luke Weaver brought home DeJong with a single and once the inning was over Wheeler’s night was finished.

As for Weaver he had been in cruise control after wobbling in the first two innings, but then he completely lost it with two outs in the fifth. He issued back-to-back walks to Wilmer Flores and Michael Conforto, and got behind Yoenis Cespedes to a 3-1 count. Cespedes swung and absolutely demolished a baseball to tie the game at four.

That got Wheeler off the hook and Matt Harvey entered the game. After getting the first two outs he gave up back-to-back doubles and the Cardinals regained the lead.

It took until the eighth for the Mets to battle back. With runners on first and third, Adrian Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to tie up the game.

Despite Robert Gsellman getting into trouble in the ninth inning, the game went into extras for the second straight game. With two outs, Bruce blasted a home run to center to give the Mets the lead in the tenth.

That left it up to Jeurys Familia to nail down the save. He dispatched the Cardinals effectively and the Mets picked up the come from behind victory.

Full recap to follow.
