Final Score: Mets 4, Phillies 2—Facebook Champions

The Mets win their second-straight to sweep the rain-shortened series.

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets took their Facebook-exclusive series finale from the Phillies this afternoon by a score of 4-2. The game started with a 95 minute rain delay, but the delay didn’t slow the Mets down early on. Noah Syndergaard got off to a fast start, striking out five in the first two innings, and he was backed by Yoenis Cespedes, who clocked his second home run of the young season in the first inning to put the Mets out in front 2-0.

But Syndergaard ran into trouble in the third. He had already worked a high pitch count, but his command got away from him the second time through the order. Syndergaard had already yielded a run in the inning on a groundout when he walked Rhys Hoskins, setting up first and third with two outs. Hoskins took off trying to steal, but Kevin Plawecki had him dead to rights. A rundown ensued, but the infield botched the play, forgetting Carlos Santana at third, allowing him to break for the plate and score the game-tying run.

Syndergaard only lasted one more inning due to his pitch count, which was at 92 through just four innings. Robert Gsellman came in relief and pitched two scoreless innings. The Mets took the lead back on an two-RBI triple by Amed Rosario in the sixth, and the Mets’ bullpen shut the Phillies down over the last three innings to seal the 4-2 win.
