Triple-A - Las Vegas 51s (0-1)

EL PASO 4, LAS VEGAS 2 (Box)

The 51s dropped their home opener last night to the El Paso Chihuahuas, 4-2. San Diego 2016 first-rounder Eric Lauer kept the Vegas bats in check for six innings, and the El Paso bullpen threw three hitless innings to ice the victory. Despite the defeat, Vegas pitching struck out 14 batters, highlighted by David Roseboom’s eight-pitch, two strikeout effort in his inning of relief.

Double-A - Binghamton Rumble Ponies (1-0)

BINGHAMTON 6, PORTLAND 0 (Box)

The Rumble Ponies galloped all over Portland starter Teddy Stankiewicz, slugging three home runs off the one-time Met second-rounder, and scoring all six of their runs in the first two innings in crusing to a 6-0 Opening Day victory. The big blow came compliments of Tim Tebow’s three-run bomb to give Bingo a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Drew Gagnon was excellent in his six innings of work, holding the Sea Dogs to two hits while striking out five.

Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (1-0)

ST. LUCIE 4, BRADENTON 1 (Box)

Justin Dunn was outstanding for the Mets last night, striking out seven and walking none in his five innings of work as St. Lucie downed the Marauders 4-1. Andres Gimenez, the 19-year old uberprospect, went 1 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored.

Low-A - Columbia Fireflies (1-0)

COLUMBIA 4, AUGUSTA 2 (Box)

The Colaflies took home a 4-2 victory over the GreenJackets last night, as 2017 drafted college arms shone in their full-season debuts last night with 7th rounder Conner O’Neil getting the victory and 8th rounder Trey Cobb nailing down the save. Despite the excellent pitching, Columbia only led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh last night, but were able to salt the game away with two insurance runs, one of which came off the bat of Blake Tiberi’s solo home run.
