Final Score: Mets 4, Marlins 2—No hangover

The Mets avoided the sort of let-down game we’ve grown so accustomed to in Miami.

MLB: New York Mets at Miami Marlins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Noah Syndergaard started strong and overcame some trouble with his finger late to lead the Mets to their sixth straight win, downing the Marlins 4-2. Syndergaard went six innings, allowing two runs (one earned), striking out five, walking two, and hitting a batter while allowing five hits. He cruised through the first four before struggling with his command late, but he battled through and registered a quality start for his second win of 2018.

The offense got going early, with Adrian Gonzalez driving in a run in the second (along with another run that scored on a double play) and Jay Bruce driving in a run in the third. Amed Rosario added some insurance late with an RBI single in the seventh inning. The Mets squandered multiple opportunities to add more to their lead, leaving the bases loaded in the seventh when Yoenis Cespedes and Bruce struck out, but the bullpen continued to sparkle and made the lead stand up. Hansel Robles (1 IP), Jerry Blevins (0.1 IP), AJ Ramos (0.2 IP), and Jeurys Familia (1.0 IP) combined for three scoreless innings to secure the victory.

The win pushes the Mets to 8-1, matching their best ever start to a season. The six game win streak also tops the longest win streak they had all of last season. Jacob deGrom will try to keep the good times rolling against Caleb Smith tomorrow night.

Full recap to follow.
