Final Score: Mets 5, Diamondbacks 4 - Flores and Friends

Wilmer Flores saved the day with his eighth career walk-off RBI.

MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets won in walk-off fashion on a foggy night in Queens, topping the Diamondbacks 5-4. Wilmer Flores was the hero with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Flores bailed out Steven Matz, who was roughed up—he gave up four runs in four innings, striking out only two and giving up two more home runs. The bullpen was fantastic in keeping things close after Matz departed, with Seth Lugo, Paul Sewald, AJ Ramos, and Jeurys Familia combining for five innings of scoreless relief.

This was a seesaw affair. The Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead early, then Michael Conforto hit a two-run home run to swing things back. Arizona answered with three runs on two home runs of their own, and, after a couple of missed opportunities, the Mets replied with another two-run home run, this time off the bat of Devin Mesoraco in the bottom of the eighth. Brandon Nimmo started the ninth with a double and Asdrubal Cabrera followed with a bunt single to set up Flores’s walk off sac fly.

It’s the first time the Mets have won back-to-back games in five weeks and it raises their record to 22-19 on the season. Noah Syndergaard takes the mound against Clay Buchholz in the series finale tomorrow afternoon.

Full recap to follow.
