The Mets were blown out by the Braves in a game that ended with a 7-0 score and lost Jacob deGrom to a hyperextended right elbow after he threw four brilliant innings. With that, the Mets are out of first place for the first time in a long time and are facing an uncertain situation in their rotation.
Despite deGrom’s early departure, the Braves did not score until the sixth, as they got one run off of Paul Sewald in his second inning of work. They scored twice more against him in the seventh, and they tattooed Robert Gsellman with four runs in the eighth. And the Mets’ hitters struck out eight times against Sean Newcomb, ten times in total, and mustered just three hits as they were shut out.
Full recap to follow.
