Mets Daily Prospect Report, 5/22/18: BABIP is a cruel mistress

Triple-A: Las Vegas 51s (17-27)

LAS VEGAS 9, SACRAMENTO 1 (BOX)

Las Vegas signed runs in each of the first six innings en route to a 9-1 rout of the River Cats. Newly signed Christian Colon went deep, as did third baseman Cody Asche. Dominic Smith managed two runs and an RBI without a hit, walking once in four plate appearances. Newly signed Cody Martin had a solid four inning start, allowing only one hit while striking out four, and Andrew Church followed with a stellar, five inning relief appearance to earn the win.

WEST VIRGINIA 3, COLUMBIA 2 / 11 (BOX)

Stephen Villines struck out four over two innings but blew the save anyway, and the Fireflies lost in eleven innings. Nicolas Debora gave up a run in the middle innings, but Columbia rallied for two in the bottom of the seventh. Scott Manea and Edgardo Fermin each had RBIs, pushing the Fireflies out to a 2-1 lead. Villines entered in the top of the ninth and allowed two hits and a walk, leading to the game tying run. He struck out three in the frame, continuing his trend of striking out almost everyone (K/9 over 15) and getting BABIP’d to death (.429 BABIP). Taylor Henry gave up the decisive run in the top of the eleventh.
