Final score: Marlins 2, Mets 1—Ugh

Jacob deGrom was excellent, but the Mets lost.

MLB: Miami Marlins at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Marlins 2-1 tonight in Queens, despite the fact that Jacob deGrom threw seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. The loss gives the Mets a series loss against the last-place Marlins and erases what would have felt like a strong six-game stretch.

Brandon Nimmo plated the Mets’ only run of the night with a monster solo home run and had a very good night at the plate. But most of his peers couldn’t say the same, and the lack of runs came back to bite them.

Seth Lugo tossed a scoreless eighth, but Jeurys Familia struggled mightily and gave up two runs to blow the save and lose the game in the ninth. The Mets weren’t able to tie things up in the bottom of the inning despite getting a runner to second base with two outs.
