The Mets’ pitching was an absolute mess in their 17-6 loss to the slugging Brewers. Despite the offense giving Jason Vargas a couple of leads, he repeatedly failed to hold them. He was awful once again and chased after the third inning when the Brewers tied the game 5-5.
Jacob Rhame, A.J. Ramos, and Chris Flexen weren’t any better. Rhame was the best of the bunch since he only gave up two runs. Ramos got two outs in the fifth, then melted down to the tune of three runs and he didn’t complete the inning. Flexen did complete the inning unscathed but that quickly changed. He escaped the sixth despite a bases loaded situation but things blew up spectacularly in the seventh. The Brewers put up a seven on the board before Jerry Blevins finally ended the inning.
The offense got off to a promising start for the Mets and scored three runs in the first, and even when Vargas made that lead disappear, Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto both hit solo home runs so they retook the lead. Even Jose Reyes helped make it a one-run game later on but that hope quickly died when Ramos entered the game and it went quickly downhill from there.
A minor rally got started in the ninth but that was quickly extinguished and the game mercifully ended.
Full recap to follow.
