After a brutal loss in Game 1, a three hour rain delay, and more than twelve hours of baseball, the Mets finally beat the Braves 8-5. The bullpen was much improved, throwing seven innings of one run ball. Robert Gsellman allowed the only blemish, while Hansel Robles had a fantastic three inning appearance as a fireman and Jeurys Familia recorded his first six out save of the season.
As has been the case for the Mets over the past week, multiple leads were blown. P.J. Conlon coughed up a 3-1 lead in the second, and Gsellman couldn’t hold on to a 5-4 lead in the sixth. The offense woke up, however, rapping out fifteen hits and scoring eight times to pick up their overworked pitching staff. Michael Conforto went 3-for-4 with a walk, quietly raising his line over the past two weeks to .340/.407/.585. Amed Rosario was the star of the game though, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
The win snaps a four game losing streak for the Mets and gets them back over .500 at 26-25. Rain is projected to be a problem again tomorrow, but if the game gets played, Steven Matz will oppose Anibal Sanchez in game three of the series.
Full recap to follow.
