Just when you thought things couldn’t get much worse for the Mets after their weak showings in the first two games of this series, the team was massacred by the Braves this afternoon by a score of 11-0. They were nearly no-hit by Julio Teheran, who did not allow a knock until Asdrubal Cabrera doubled with two outs in the seventh inning.
The Mets wound up mustering just six baserunners the entire game, and three of them came in the seventh inning once Teheran started tiring. The team has not scored in its last 18 innings, and they have managed just six hits and nine baserunners over that time.
And things were even more disastrous on the mound than they were at the plate. Jason Vargas made his second start of the season, and it didn’t go much better than the first. He allowed six runs on eleven hits, two walks and three home runs in just 4.2 innings pitched. Matt Harvey came on in relief, and he was fine through his first inning and a third, but things blew up on him in the seventh, when he allowed five more runs.
The Braves finished off the sweep of the Mets in impressive fashion, clearly outclassing the Mets in all facets.
Full recap to follow.
