Triple-A: Las Vegas 51s (22-32)

RENO 8, LAS VEGAS 5 (Box)

In what was quite a day of roster moves (see below), the reshuffled 51s suffered a familiar result in the second most disappointing Vegas sports defeat of the nigt. Aaron Laffey didn’t make much of a case for even an emergency start in the majors, having a second straight rough outing since his signing, surrendering eight runs and five home runs—one from old friend Cesar Puello—over five innings. Vegas put up a two in the sixth and single runs in the eighth and ninth to make the final score appear slightly more respectable.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets selected the contract of RHP Tim Peterson from Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets recalled LHP Buddy Baumann from Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets optioned 3B Phillip Evans to Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets optioned RHP Jacob Rhame to Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: RHP Eric Hanhold assigned to Las Vegas 51s from Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (28-23)

BINGHAMTON 7, ERIE 3 / 11 INNINGS (Box)

Mickey Jannis was moved up a day thanks to Scott Copeland’s promotion, but he had the knuckler dancing early, allowing only one hit over the first four. However, the SeaWolves were able to get to him in the fifth, plating a run on three singles, than manufacturing another in the sixth on a single, wild pitch and a sacrifice fly. The Ponies answered back in the top of the seventh on a clutch two-run double from Patrick Mazeika. The game remained knotted into the eleventh, when Binghamton capitalized on an early inning error to explode for five runs, including a two-run single from Peter Alonso. Joshua Torres was solid in vulturing a fourth win, while Ryder Ryan closed it out in his Bingo debut, striking out two and allowing an unearned run.

ROSTER ALERT: C Tomas Nido assigned to Binghamton Rumble Ponies from Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: Ryder Ryan assigned to Binghamton Rumble Ponies from St. Lucie Mets.

ROSTER ALERT: New York Mets selected the contract of RHP Scott Copeland from Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Advanced-A: St. Lucie Mets (19-25)

JUPITER 7, ST. LUCIE 1 (Box)

The Hammerheads struck early and often in this one, plating two in the first and two more in the second to put the Mets in a hole from which the anemic offense could not recover. St. Lucie recorded five hits in the game—all singles—and plated their only run in the bottom of the eighth on a Jupiter error.

ROSTER ALERT: LHP Blake Taylor assigned to St. Lucie Mets from Las Vegas 51s.

ROSTER ALERT: RHP Joseph Zanghi assigned to St. Lucie Mets from Las Vegas 51s.

Low-A: Columbia Fireflies (28-22)

COLUMBIA 2, CHARLESTON 1 (Box)

This was a nice pitcher’s duel early, as Tony Dibrill and JP Sears matched zeroes through the first four innings. Dibrill blinked first, surrendering a two-out double in the bottom of the fifth to put the Colaflies behind 1-0. Columbia struck right back, as Edgardo Fermin led off the sixth with a walk, took third on a Blake Tiberi single and scored on an RBI groundout by Matt Winaker. Jeremy Vasquez followed by lining a triple over the right fielder’s head to knock in the go-ahead run. The bullpen was stellar once Dibrill left after 6.1, as Stephen Villines and Trey Cobb shut the door the rest of the way.

ROSTER ALERT: RHP Jeff Diehl assigned to Columbia Fireflies from St. Lucie Mets.

ROSTER ALERT: RHP Briam Campusano assigned to Brooklyn Cyclones from Columbia Fireflies.
