New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce will be placed on the paternity list after Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Cincinnati Reds. Bruce will return to his home in Texas to be with his wife Hannah, who is expecting the birth of their second child. He will miss all three games against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend.
The Mets have yet to announce a corresponding move, but one could expect them to call up a reliever from the 40-man roster such as Jacob Rhame or Gerson Bautista. Juan Lagares and Brandon Nimmo will fill in during Bruce’s absence. With Jacob deGrom due to come off the DL on Sunday, whoever does get the call-up for the Phillies series will be sent down to make room for deGrom.
This won’t be the only paternity list move the Mets will have to make this month, as Jerry Blevins could soon be next with his wife due to give birth in a few days as well.
