The Mets dropped the series finale against the Reds this afternoon, 2-1 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. After an embarrassing incident with the lineup card to start the game, the Mets wasted lots of opportunities today, and eventually lost in extra innings.
Zach Wheeler started for the Mets, and looked quite good through the first five innings. In the sixth, three straight hits led to the first Reds run of the game off the bat of Joey Votto. That would be the only run Wheeler gave up in his six innings.
The Mets got on the board in the bottom of the third, when Brandon Nimmo led off with a triple. He came around to score when the next batter, Asdrubal Cabrera, grounded out.
After magnificent innings from Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo, AJ Ramos gave up a walk off home run to Adam Duvall, The Mets have now lost six of their last seven series, and are generally looking pretty rough right now. Let’s hope a day off does them some good.
