The Mets fell apart and lost to the Braves by a score of 8-2. Zack Wheeler and Mike Foltynewicz were locked in a pitcher’s duel early until Ender Inciarte broke the scoreless game with a bloop single in the fourth.
The Mets seemingly caught a break when the Braves pulled Foltynewwicz with tightness in his forearm after five innings. They actually capitalized when Dansby Swanson committed an error on a potential double play ball. With the bases loaded, Jay Bruce hit a ground rule double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.
Then as is often the case their luck changed. Devin Mesoraco hit a ball down the line that Johan Camargo turned into two outs and the Braves were out of the inning. The lead evaporated quickly after that. The first pitch Wheeler threw in the bottom half of the inning landed in the seats off the bat of Freddie Freeman and the Braves were off and running.
Inciarte yet again gave them the lead with another soft hit and once Wheeler ran out of gas he departed with the bases loaded. Paul Sewald entered and gave up a grand slam to Ozzie Albies to officially put any thought of a comeback out of everyone’s minds.
Full recap to follow.
