The Mets dropped their second straight game to the Braves this afternoon, 2-0 in SunTrust Park. The Mets, now officially done with trips to Atlanta this season, couldn’t muster a single run against the Braves’ pitching staff.
The Mets were nearly no-hit this afternoon by rookie starter Mike Soroka, until Michael Conforto’s infield single leading off the seventh gave the Mets their second baserunner of the game. Conforto advanced on a wild pitch by Soroka, and found himself on second base with no one out. Unfortunately, the Mets couldn’t capitalize, even after Soroka was pulled mid-inning.
Jacob deGrom continued his brilliance this season, limiting the Braves to seven hits and no walks, while striking out seven over seven innings. He continues to pitch about as well as anyone in the game, but still is getting almost no run support.
The only blemish to deGrom’s start was a Freddie Freeman single in the fourth inning, driving in Dansby Swanson. Jerry Blevins also surrendered a solo shot to Freeman in the eighth, putting the game only so slightly more out of reach, but seemingly miles away, based on the Mets’ current offensive prowess.
Full recap to follow.
