Coming off a strong finish to their series in Arizona, the Mets kept the good times rolling with a dominant, 12-2 win over the Rockies. Jacob deGrom continued his Cy Young caliber season, striking out seven over eight innings, allowing only one earned run, and lowering his ERA on the season to an insane 1.51. For the first time in what feels like forever, the Mets actually backed deGrom up, getting him his first win since May 18th.
Brandon Nimmo led off the game with an inside-the-park home run, and added a conventional homer in the seventh. Devin Mesoraco and Wilmer Flores also homered, while Michael Conforto had a big day with two doubles, a stolen base, and two runs. To put the icing on the cake, the Mets batted around in the ninth, scoring more runs (6) then they had in deGrom’s last five starts combined. Granted, the Rockies’ pitching staff is a literal tire fire right now, but it’s still encouraging to see a Met offense that couldn’t buy a run over the last month-and-a-half come to life on this road trip.
The Mets now have a modest three-game win streak going, and Jason Vargas will look to extend that to four tomorrow night against German Marquez.
Full recap to follow.
