The Rockies exploded against Jason Vargas and Hansel Robles to take down the Mets 10-8. The Mets were a mess right from the beginning with sloppy play from Brandon Nimmo, Dominic Smith, and Amed Rosario.
It all came to a head in the third inning when Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, and Ian Desmond hit three consecutive home runs. After recording only one out that inning, Vargas was pulled in favor of Robles who poured gasoline all over a smoldering fire. He eventually got out of a bases loaded situation but all told the Rockies put up six runs on the board that inning to give them an 8-2 lead.
Carlos Gonzalez added another home run to Rockies’ total when he hit a solo shot off Robles in the fourth. Chris Beck entered in the fifth and despite giving up a run, he was certainly better than the two that preceded him.
The Rockies’ bullpen certainly attempted to make the game interesting. The Mets scored two runs in the seventh and two in the ninth but the deficit was just too much to overcome.
Full recap to follow.
