The Mets lost their second straight game to the Dodgers, losing 8-3 at Citi Field. Despite a marquee starting pitching match up, the game wound up looking quite different than expected, as neither starter really looked like the ace they are. And, despite that, neither team truly capitalized on the other’s ace being off.
Jacob deGrom started for the Mets, and got into trouble early, giving up a first inning home run to Max Muncy. The Mets responded with a run in each of the second and third innings off of Clayton Kershaw, taking a 2-1 lead going into the top of the fourth.
Los Angeles went ahead in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs on a Chris Taylor double. The Mets continued their frustrating habit of leaving runners on base, and would not score again until the bottom of the eighth inning.
However, that would prove to big too little too late, as Matt Kemp blasted a grand slam in the top of the eighth off of Robert Gsellman, putting the game far out of reach. Two of the Mets three runs were off the bat of Jose Bautista, and while it is encouraging to see him start to heat up, that’s about the only highlight you can take from tonight’s frustrating game.
