Final Score: Mets 4, Pirates 3-Another Wilmer walk-off

It took extra innings but Wilmer pulled through!

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Wilmer Flores drove in the first two runs, and last run in extras to give the Mets a much needed 4-3 victory.

Chad Kuhl and the Pirates were all over the place to start the game. A single, a walk, and two wild pitches put runners on second and third for Wilmer Flores. He brought both runners home with a single that just squeezed through the infield.

That gave Steven Matz an early lead to work with and he was great through four innings. After not allowing a hit through four it snowballed quickly in the fifth. Four straight hits brought home two Pittsburgh runs to tie up the game. Matz settled in after that, but with two outs in the seventh Gregory Polanco took him deep to put the Pirates ahead.

Michael Conforto got Matz off the hook with a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game 3-3. Things got chippy in the eighth when Jeurys Familia took exception to a clean slide by Josh Harrison that prolonged the inning. Familia eventually got out of the inning despite loading the bases and having some words for Harrison.

Tim Peterson kept the game tied which set the stage for Flores who fittingly walked it off.

Full recap to follow.
