Mets Daily Farm Report, 6/28/18: Give us McNeil!

Catch up on all the Mets prospects in yesterday’s minor league action!

*All results from games played on June 27, 2018

Triple-A: Las Vegas 51s (35-44)

LAS VEGAS 5, TACOMA 2 (Box)

Chris Flexen threw only 69 pitches over an abbreviated three innings—whether that was a result of his excessive wildness (five walks over three), or a desire to preserve him for a possible return to the major league club is unknown at this time. The bullpen did an excellent job holding the 2-1 lead Flexen was staked to through 3 innings, as the offense extended the lead thanks to a Jose Lobaton solo blast in the sixth and an RBI double from Jeff McNeil in the eighth. McNeil’s excellent all-around day brought his AAA average up to .381, and should only increase demands for McNeil’s presence in Flushing.

ROSTER ALERT: Las Vegas 51s placed CF Patrick Biondi on the 7-day disabled list.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (36-40)

TRENTON 8, BINGHAMTON 5 (Box)

The Ponies found themselves in a 3-0 hole four batters into the game, as the Thunder got to Nabil Crismatt on a three-run home run by Ryan McBroom. Crismatt settled down after that, allowing only an RBI double to McBroom as he got through six. Binghamton cut it to 4-3 in the third on a Levi Michael home run and a Tomas Nido RBI single, but got no closer. Trenton got to Daniel Zamora for three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead, rendering the Ponies’ late rally efforts futile

Advanced-A: St. Lucie Mets (27-40 / 0-5)

JUPITER 2, ST. LUCIE 1 (Box)

The Mets remained 0-for the second half Wednesday night, dropping a rain-soaked, oft-delayed affair to the Hammerheads 2-1. Gabriel Llanes blinked in the third inning, walking the leadoff hitter then surrendering and RBI triple to Zach Sullivan, who came around to score on a passed ball—Anthony Dimino’s 12th of the year. That was too much for the punchless Mets offense (where have we heard that before?) St. Lucie managed a run in the sixth on a Dash Winningham sacrifice fly, but left the bases loaded, then went relatively quietly over the final few frames. Stretching back to the first half, that makes it 10 losses in a row, and 13-of-14 for the Mets.

Low-A: Columbia Fireflies (34-33 / 3-2)

POSTPONED (RAIN)

ROSTER ALERT: IF Dionis Paulino assigned to Columbia Fireflies from Brooklyn Cyclones.

ROSTER ALERT: Columbia Fireflies placed LF Jay Jabs on the 7-day disabled list.

SS-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (9-3)

NO GAME (SCHEDULE)

ROSTER ALERT: 2B Carlos Cortes assigned to Brooklyn Cyclones.

Rookie: Kingsport Mets (6-1)

NO GAME (SCHEDULE)

Rookie - GCL Mets (5-3)

GCL METS 8, GCL CARDINALS 5 (Box)

The GCL Mets struck early and often, plating eight runs over the first five frames to grab an 8-0 lead, then hung on through some bullpen adventures to secure the 8-5 victory. The offense racked up 13 hits—six for extra bases—Wilmer Reyes struck the big blow in first with a two-run blast deep to left-center.
