Final Score: Cubs 2, Mets 0 — At least they didn’t get no-hit

Believe it or not, this series could have been worse

MLB: Chicago Cubs at New York Mets Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets were swept today at Citi Field, losing their fourth straight to the Cubs, 2-0. Jon Lester no-hit the Mets for the first five plus innings, but had his bid broken up by a Kevin Plawecki single. Lester walked three and struck out seven over his seven innings of work.

On the New York side, Steven Matz went seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out seven, and continues to look improved on the mound. Even when giving up the two runs, Matz only allowed one extra-base hit all day.

But, as has been the case as of late, the Mets’ offense was non-existent today. Aside from the Plawecki single, only Amed Rosario and Michael Conforto recorded hits today, both of which were immediately erased on double plays. It’s been that kind of week.

Full recap to follow.
